  2. Rolepay#3 Participants: Me, DALIO & Remp Story+Screenshots: I used to work as a service writer at a shop owned by a department store that you mainly see out in front of malls. Had a woman in her early forties come in complaining of a severe vibration and clunking coming from the front of her car. During the walk around I noticed that her driver's side front wheel was a full-size spare, only being held on by ONE lug nut, and was missing 3 of the five studs. I asked her about it and she told me that she'd had a flat 2 months earlier on that wheel and that her son had changed it for her. I told her that this was most likely her problem, but that it would need to be addressed even if there was something else causing the vibration. I asked her if she wanted the flat repaired while were at it and she said "sure." The tech took it from there, came back and told me that 3 of the studs were sheared off at the outside of the wheel and the only one with a nut was cross-threaded and would need to be replaced as well. On top of that the lower ball joint was shot, probably contributing to the problem. The flat tire was nowhere to be found in the car. We did a full evaluation of the car and there were a few other issues, but nothing that would render the car undrivable. It was company policy to bring all known issues to the customer's attention and provide them with a rundown of the associated costs. I went through everything with the woman, who had waited patiently at the garage, explaining VERY clear that the 4 lug nuts absolutely needed to be replaced, the ball joint should be addressed, everything else should be taken care of as soon as possible. Completely straight-faced, she looks me dead in the eye and asks "So when do you think I'll have to fix it?" I'm sure my face showed a mixture of horror and confusion at this question, but I calmly replied "Today. Now." I explained that the car could not be driven and that I couldn't even take it off the lift in its current state. So she goes outside and talks to someone on her phone for a minute, comes back in and says that she wants to take the car, that her son will fix it, and that we're trying to rip her off with all the extra crap I was trying to sell her.' I tell her again that we don't need to do anything but the studs, but that she can't drive it like it is. She gets pissed, I get the manager, he tells her the same thing. She starts freaking out, saying it's her property, blah blah blah. Now the manager was from some northern state where they have inspections and can hold your car or make you have it towed if it is not roadworthy. However, this isn't the case in San Fierro, so he gets the cops on the phone and they tell him to release the car. He warns her that there's a good chance that the wheel will fall off if she tries to drive it and offers to call a tow truck for her. She keeps going on about how we get kickbacks from the towing company or some shit and demands her keys. We take it off the lift, and the manager hands her the keys with a final warning that she shouldn't drive the car. She hops in and flips us the bird as she drives away. As she makes the right turn into the mall parking lot, the wheel decides enough is enough and goes rolling on its merry way without her. She even had the nerve to come back and ask for our help, which was met with a hearty chuckle. We called loss prevention and they had a wrecker come out and take the car away.

  4. Rolepay#2 Participants: Me & Pressmaster Story+Screenshots: Ive always loved old machinery, especially old cars and bikes. Since I enjoy wrenching, Ive opened up a shop of my own. I cater mostly to old bikes, the type of thing people usually cant find a shop willing to work on. They can also be difficult to find parts for. One day, a guy with a cane limps into my place. He explains how he just bought an old bike and it needs work. He says he doesnt have much money and is hoping we can work out some kind of trade. Hes got two old bikes at his home that hes willing to put up as payment if Ill fix the one he just bought. He says that he got it for his young sons birthday, and the kid just cant wait to go for a ride on it. My stupid heart of gold takes over and before I know it Ive agreed, pending a look at his trade. I follow him out to his house and find two bikes in pretty sorry shape. The first one is absolute scrap, as in not a single usable part. He is a bit delusional, telling me how itd be worth a fortune to a collector if it was all fixed up. I didn't want to burst this guys bubble by saying that Im a collector, and examples of that model, even in mint condition, cant even be given away. The second machine isnt as bad, and I decide I can probably flip it or sell a few parts from it and make my money back. We shake on it. Thats when he drops the first surprise on me. He doesnt have a truck or trailer, and the bike he just bought is still at the sellers house. Since it is on my way home, I agree to pick it up there and then bring it back to his home after repairs are complete. Roughly two hours later, I am home with his bike and have just begun gathering parts. I havent turned a single wrench on it when the phone rings. Its the guy, and he wants to know if I am done yet! I've told him nope, just getting started. Itll be probably four hours before Im finished. He reiterates that his kid cant wait to go riding. I told him that I knew about it and that Ill call him as soon as its done. A half-hour goes by and the phone rings again. Its him again, wanting a progress report. By now Im starting to lose patience a little. Most shops have a week to two-week lead time, so the fact that I am getting on his job ASAP is a rare phenomenon in itself. I cant believe how impatient he is. Once again I've told him that Ill call as soon as its done and that every time I have to answer the phone, the repair takes longer. He waits maybe 45 minutes and then calls again with the same question. I try to break it down as simply as I can. Every time I have to drop what Im doing and answer the phone, I lose my place and have to start all over again. Its far more efficient if he just lets me call him when Im done. As Im tightening the last bolt, he calls again. This time I answer and tell him Im just finishing up and that since I worked through dinner, Im going to eat something quick, and then Ill be right out with it. He has the gall to sound disappointed like I should just bring the bike out immediately and eat something on my own time! By now Im anxious to drop it off, gather my payment, and put this one behind me. After this, no more sympathy deals! A half-hour later I arrive at his house. His kid is going absolutely ballistic, so that makes me feel a little better and eases some of the tension. While the kid buzzes around on the bike, I've told his dad that Im ready to pack up the two bikes we agreed on and head home. He looks at me like Ive got two heads and says, Two bikes? I tell him, Yes, like we shook on. He tells me I must have gotten confused, and that the deal was only for one bike, and guess which one? Yup, the absolute junk one. I level with him and told him that its not worth anything to me, or anyone else. Ill be losing if I take it as payment. I want the two that we agreed on. He keeps trying to backpedal, telling me how itll be worth so much money when its all fixed up. I tell him, rather heatedly, that hes not honoring our agreement. I've told him that I've made a special exception and agreed to a trade with him, went and picked up his bike, fixed it with him looking over my shoulder the entire time, and then dropped it off at his house, and now hes trying to screw me? He seems uncomfortable, but just keeps repeating the whole worth a ton when fixed up thing. I say, So, your word is worth nothing? Is that what you want to teach your kid? That you can lie to people and never face consequences? I tell him to keep the piece of junk if he thinks its worth so much and to never come near my property again. I know its immature, but for a long time after, every time I pass by his house and see him in the yard, I honk and give him the single-finger salute, just as a token of my appreciation!

  11. Rolepay#1 Participants: Me & @DALIO Story+Screenshots: It was Wednesday midnight, as usual, I went on my way to open the garage to start my night shift and finish some undone work. Once I arrived, I got a call from a customer from Los Inkas, we made a good impression to each other after the last project we have done for his gang. Ever since that moment, everyone wants our service. But yet, I wasnt used to this. I had a little chat with the customer and asked him what the problem was. He told me he was having trouble with his engine, it didnt start properly. It was a race car, I didnt expect less. I decided to take a look, and ASAP as I opened the hood, a big cloud of smoke came out. I wasnt surprised that his engine wasnt starting, I was surprised it was starting at all. I told him the bad news and decided to replace the engine. I had to replace almost everything, so this wasnt going to be cheap. He agreed, and I started my work. Hours past, I wasnt even sure if it was still night. But eventually, I finished the job with the assistance of my fellow colleague. I returned a call to the customer and told him everything was ready. A quarter of an hour later, he arrived. We tested the engine, and it was functioning perfectly. We had a quick ride, and once returned to the garage the customer was very pleased with our work. I gave him my number and told him he could call me whenever he needed help with his cars. He paid us, and we split our way.
