SAES Vice City - 15th Birthday

SAES/VCES will be 15 years old on the 23rd of November.


I have a Vice City server ready to go for the birthday (its deathmatch based atm)


However, what's your opinion on this server? Do you want it to run a DM server and replace RvB / DM zone or would you like it linked to the current game mode where you can purchase a "flight" to Vice City and buy houses, play as police or criminal and do the things you can currently do on the main server?


We are still taking donations, if you wish to donate 5GBP or more (from today, game give-away was scrapped), you will receive beta access to test the new server and we also have a few more donation perks in the works (something to do with the words, pack and jet?)


The poll ends on 31st October.

@carter don't know if you're talking about the map or the game, but the video is GTA SA game on GTA VC map.


Anyhow, a DM or even PUBG like script would be good enough, imo. I don't see RP happening in there, but then again, no much RP happens in SAES either.


Now @Brophy, quick question, when you say "(...) linked to the current game mode where you can purchase a "flight" to Vice City and buy houses, (...)", you mean teleport to an area / dimension where the map is or connect to a new server which is running the map? Because, if we could have 2 maps in 1 server that would be FREAKING DOPE.

not doable
SA map afaik is built of 6000x6000 units and SA is occupying the majority of it. anything outside the 6K can't have objects rendered although you can still fly there, iirc.
also you would encounter issues with object replacements, you cannot simply add an additional 4000 objects to the game, only replace existing ones.


one could argue "but hey, just merge houses and buildings into 1 dff to save space!" but that won't work too well as you'll have streaming issues of said objects being too high KB. there are also object limitations of (iirc) 255 units from one end to another. collisions will be significantly larger (assuming you merge them, duh) which often results in pressure on your computer, rather than the streamer having to load small bits at once, it will have to load large bits at once.


this is possible on GTA SA, check GTA UNITED and other projects

It will be two servers but the flight can be animated then we can use the following function.

It possibly could be done with dimensions and dynamic loading and unloading but will be too much for the potato computers
